Even when you look at it the way I did; an exchange of service, I do the work and you pay me. It was still an unfair exchange. The boss would pay me $300.00 a day then charged $800.00 a day per man, that’s New York City union scale. So you tell me who’s getting rich off of who? Then I needed the boss’s permission to take off, vacation and if I got sick. Chances were that when I came back somebody else might have my job. So I showed up every day, with my tools and the company got bigger and bigger every year. And at the end of my working career, I would be able to retire with about 30% of what wasn’t enough to begin with. I would still have to pay for my medical insurance and probably work at home depot to make ends meet. Just take a good look; you see it all the time. People that should be enjoying their golden years, are working the counter at the local fast food restaurant. Mean while the boss sold the business, that we broke our backs building. And now the boss is enjoying retirement in a big house with new cars in the driveway taking regular vacations every year enjoying life to the fullest. Good for him, but what about me?
