Chris Matthews talks with Gov. Ed Rendell and Steve Moore from The Wall Street Journal about two characters who showed up at a Sen. Arlen Specter town hall: a birther (“please tell Mr. Obama he’s an American”) and a single mom (“you have awakened a sleeping giant.”) Matthews calls it “primitive talk.” Rendell thinks birthers are “absolutely nuts” and the majority should “step up and say no to these crazies.” Moore argues that there’s a lot of “rage” at these meetings; Matthews is led to believe that “I think some of the people are upset because we have a black President.”
