Midwifery was developed out of the social, physical and material support women have provided each other during their times of need. A midwife is able to provide excellent care to a pregnant mother, with the added bonus of being able to connect to them emotionally. There are differences with the model of a midwife compared to a medical management, but the aim is the same. Read on to know what the main philosophy of midwifery is all about.

First and foremost, midwives focuses on the normalcy of pregnancy and keeping it as healthy as possible. They see the birth as something that is normal which will give a valuable experience to a lot of people. It is usually treated by a midwife as normal unless there is evidence of a problem. They do not usually allow the complications to bother any other values associated with the birthing process and proper care for the child. Basically, a midwife is an expert in protecting, supporting and enhancing normal labor, delivery and breast-feeding.  That is one of the benefits women love who I help in my San Diego midwife service.

Next, a midwife ensures that the pregnant woman is part of the process of taking care of herself and makes sure that she is the primary actor and decision-maker. A major part of the midwife is to provide the information and support a woman needs in order to make a good decision. A midwife helps the woman identify any problem and provides good information and options so that the woman can have a good choice.  This makes a home birth go much more smoothly as evidenced in our San Diego licensed midwife practice.

Third, midwifery makes the woman and her life the central focus of prenatal care. A large part of the midwife’s attention is focused on the pregnant woman and defines her as a unique individual. The midwife connects to her on the emotional level, being interested in her beliefs and expectations to make the experience a good one. A midwife makes sure that the woman will be adaptable to change which will lead to proper prenatal care, pregnancy, labor and family development.  We make sure the environment is just the way the woman wants it in our homebirth midwives San Diego service.

Those are some of the main focus and values a midwife has. Making sure that the woman is aware and decides the circumstances is what separates midwives from any other forms of care.
