Jen Hall and her fiance, Joe Hoffman (a Marine Corps veteran), had just come out of a tavern from celebrating Hall’s birthday on August 25, 2008. They were on their way to the grocery store to buy catfood before returning home when they were approached by two homeless people for a cigarette. “Not tonight”, said Hoffman; after which the homeless people attacked them. Hoffman and Derrick King were fighting hand-to-hand for a good few minutes, when King looked over at Joyce Burgess and decided to help her out because Jen was wooping her butt. King threw Hoffman between two parked cars and while Hoffman was getting back up, King brutally kicked Jen Hall several times in the head, causing brain damage and knocking out all but 4 of her teeth. It’s a miracle Jen survived. She is now facing tremendous medical bills (over $100000), because she has no medical insurance. It seems incredibly unfair that the homeless couple that attacked them, Joyce Burgess and Derrick King, although having been indicted on the attempted first degree murder charge for what they did to Jen Hall, are now in jail with free medical treatment, free meals, and a free bed to sleep in.
