Helth Cover

I’m not a resident of the US, so maybe i’m out of the loop, but the concept of free health care only seems like a fantastic idea.
I do understand that many people will be forced to pay higher taxes to fund the health care, but on the other hand, the way I see it, people won’t need medical insurance, (which is really, extortionately expensive, right?) so that should cover that extra expense.
If anyone can clear this up for me, that would be great.
